Last week, the department of Psychological Science held the Spring Research Symposium which is a culminating event for research conducted throughout the semester or academic year. Three seniors started the event by presenting their comprehensive research projects to a wide audience:
“Relationship Motivation and the Influence of Advertising” – by Allison Conrad
“First Impressions: Impact of Perceived Mental Health” – by Heidi Pontinen
“The Role of Recipient Affiliation and Signaling in Inequity Aversion in Children ages 6-9” – by Taylor Sommers
After the senior presentations, activity turned to the research presentation boards displayed in the Torey Atrium in Beck Hall. Over 65 students presented research results from more than 22 studies with topics ranging from the Impact of Olfaction on Neural Mechanisms of Attention and The Effect of Cell Phone Use on Perceptions and Behavior to Terror Management: Looking at Willingness to Go to War and The Effects of Loving-kindness Meditation on Self-Compassion and Wellbeing.
The evening culminated with the annual celebration of Psychological Science majors which included games, senior recognition, a delicious meal and fun! A delightful time was had by all.
