Psi Chi Officers…What do they do?
Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology has a chapter and local officers here at Gustavus Adolphus College.
The main role of Gustavus Psi Chi officers is to plan educational events for students in the Psychological Science department. The officers meet once a week to discuss possible speakers and events to bring to campus.
This semester our brainstorming has been focused on finding guests who have used their psychology degrees to work in fields outside of clinical or counseling psychology. We want to help students realize how many career opportunities they have with a degree in psychology.
Another big event for the officers is induction of new members this spring. Every year the officers plan this event to welcome the new members into our chapter of Psi Chi and present the seniors with their graduation cords. Officers serve as a main line of communication between the faculty and the students. Being a Psi Chi officer is a great way to get to know faculty, make connections with people who are already working in your future field and become more involved in the department.
