black g April is a busy month for the Psychological Sciences department. Take a look at your calendars, and      see if any of these exciting opportunities within the field interest you. Share them your classmates as  well!

 Interested in participating at or attending an undergraduate research symposium?

  •  Registration is now open for the 26th Winchell Undergraduate Research Symposium. It will be held on  April 26th, 2014 at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the  Minnesota Academy of Science. If you would like to participate, please send an abstract in by March 21st, 2014. More excitingly, the provost has informed the department that funds will be available if you would like to participate! For more information, contact Thomas Huber (Huber@gustavus.edu).
  • The 2014 Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference will be held on April 26th, 2014 at Bethel University, and they are looking for registrants! The deadline for registering is April 7th, 2014. To register, visit http://gomupc.org/. This year the keynote speaker is Angus Macdonald III from the University of Minnesota.

Interested in the role of genetics in psychology?

  • The University of Minnesota Department of Psychology is holding a research presentation by Kenneth Kendler, entitled “Psychiatric Genetics: A Current Perspective.” Kendler is the director of the Psychiatric Genetics Research Program as well as a Rachel Brown Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry. He will be presenting on Friday, April 25th, 2014 from 9:00am to 10:15am at the Walter Library. Following his presentation, post-doc and graduate students from the Department of Psychology will be giving short presentations for the rest of the day. This is a great opportunity to meet other people in the field, as well as explore the exciting field of genetic psychiatry!
