The Gustavus chapter of Psi Chi inducted 20 new members at their spring induction ceremony on April 13th, 2016. Graduating seniors were also honored at the event, which brought together faculty and students to celebrate the academic achievement of the students in attendance.
Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, is one of the largest honors societies in the country. Psi Chi promotes individual interest and scholarly excellence in psychology and advances the science of psychological study. The society holds annual regional and national conventions, sponsors undergraduate and graduate research award programs, publishes undergraduate research, is formally affiliated with APA, and notifies members of other psychology-related opportunities.
Our local chapter specifically strives to find ways to enhance the regular psychology curriculum, and to promote interaction among psychology majors, faculty, alumni, and other psychologists. Within the Psychological Science Department at Gustavus, the expectation is that Psi Chi members will attend Psi Chi events, assist with department events, and serve as liaisons when there are discussions of important issues related to the major. Throughout the year, Psi Chi sponsors social, educational, and service activities open to all psychological science majors, as well as arranges guest panel discussions to provide post-graduate career information to majors.
